Liverpool airport transfer: everything you need to know before you travel

Published 4 October 2026 by City Wheels.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is in Speke, about seven miles south-east of the city centre, beside the Mersey estuary. It has a single terminal, so there is one arrivals hall to meet your driver in. Here is what is worth knowing before you travel.

Getting to and from the airport

The airport has no railway station of its own, so most passengers need a bus, a taxi or a lift from the nearest station. If you are travelling with luggage, children or an early flight, a pre-booked car removes the connection: you are collected from your door and taken to the terminal.

A wide catchment

The airport serves more than Liverpool itself: the Wirral, Cheshire and parts of North Wales all use it. When you book, give your actual pickup address, because the fixed price is calculated from where you really are rather than a generic city-centre figure.

How the pickup works

  • Give us your flight number when you book and we track it from the moment it pushes back.
  • If you land early or late, your pickup time moves with the aircraft and the price doesn't change.
  • Our free waiting allowance for arrivals starts from the moment you land, not from the time originally booked.
  • Ask for meet and greet when you book and your driver will meet you in arrivals with a name board.

Departures

For a departure, tell us your flight time and we will suggest a pickup time worked back from check-in, with a buffer sized to the route and the time of day. City Wheels covers Liverpool round the clock, so early-morning departures are as easy to arrange as any other.

Booking and price

For airport runs we recommend at least 12 hours' notice. Enter your pickup and destination in the booking form and you will see the fixed price before you commit. There is no meter and no surge pricing on match days or event nights.
